Death Fart – Apple Original HomePod Repair Service

Description

Death Fart – Apple Original HomePod Repair Service

A death fart is a notably loud sound from the HomePod’s woofer, typically followed with a reboot. If your HomePod is experiencing this issue, this service is for you.

Original, 1st Gen Apple HomePods (Model: A1639, MPN: MQHV2LL/A or MQHW2LL/A) are susceptible to decaying ceramic capacitors on the amplifier board. Once they no longer hold charge as intended, the result is audible popping sounds, or a very loud pop (or “fart”), and a reboots. To remedy the problem, these capacitors need to be replaced.

The HomePod Death Fart repair service includes:

To remedy the problem and to ensure longevity of your HomePod, we perform the following in this “HomePod death fart” service:

  1. We desolder the four faulty ceramic capacitors, and solder brand new high-quality capacitors back onto the amplifier board.
  2. We bolster the padding between the subwoofer and the support frame using a high-quality durable foam. We may do the same the woofer and the top ring to stem any potential rattles that may be caused due to aging rubber grommets that anchor the woofer to the frame.
  3. We use a high-density 3M foam tape on the ribbon that connect the logic board to the amplified board, microphones, and the diagnostics port to prevent contact of the ribbon with the subframe.
  4. We reset the unit, update the firmware/software and test overnight to ensure everything is OK.
  5. In some cases, we may also replace a Schottky barrier diode if it matches certain production batch numbers. Failure of this particular diode will result in a completely non-responsive HomePod. While we’re there, we check this as well for a peace of mind.

All of the above services are a part of our HomePod death fart service, and included in your purchase.

Minn-Tech provided a fantastic service experience for repairing worn out capacitors on my 1st-gen HomePods. The whole process took less than a week including shipping both ways, and the fee was very reasonable given alternatives. I would use Minn-Tech again for this repair without hesitation.

How we help with your HomePod problems

This super-convenient mail-in repair service for your non-bootable or dead HomePod works in three easy steps:

  1. YOU PLACE AN ORDER. Within 24 hours:
    (a) We email your prepaid shipping box to the email on your order. If you ordered via “Apple Pay” or “Google Pay” you need not worry about your email address, it is included in your order automatically. (b) OR, for an additional $15, we will ship an emtpy homepod box with your prepaid return shipping label inside. You will see this option right above the “Add to Cart” button
  2. SHIP YOUR HOMEPOD TO US:
    (a) If you did NOT order an empty box from us, pack your HomePod in a suitable shipping box with ample padding. Print out the shipping label we emailed you, and apply it on your own box.  If you do not want to print your own label, you can use the QR code we emailed with your prepaid shipping label at the US Postal Service office. Show them the QR code and they will print the label for you at the counter for free. You still need to pack the HomePod, they will only print the label, not pack the HomePod for you. (b) If you added an empty shipping box from us into your order, you will find your prepaid return shipping label inside the box. Just place your HomePod in the empty HomePod box, tape up the box, and apply the prepaid return label over the existing label. Take your box to a US Postal Service station or drop it in a suitable US Postal Service mailbox, or schedule a pickup for your box.
  3. WE DIAGNOSE AND FIX YOUR HOMEPOD, AND SHIP IT BACK TO YOU FOR FREE: We will fix your HomePod within 2 business days, reset your HomePod to test connectivity, update its firmware/software to the latest version from Apple, and reset it to get it ready to be paired again with your network.
